Message from Your President
Thank you to the members of CUPE Local 4318 for placing your trust in me as your President. It is an honour to serve our Local, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our Executive, Shop Stewards, and members as we continue building a strong, engaged, and supportive union.
As I begin this role, my commitment is simple: to lead with integrity, transparency, and respect, while keeping our members at the centre of the work we do. I believe open communication, collaboration, and active member involvement are essential to a strong Local, and I welcome your ideas and participation in the months ahead.
One of our Executive’s immediate priorities is to support our bargaining committee as negotiations with the employer continue. While we cannot share details during bargaining, please know that your committee is working diligently on your behalf. We remain committed to keeping members informed and will share updates as soon as we are able.
Beginning August 25, I will be serving as your full-time President, allowing me to dedicate my time to representing members, supporting our Shop Stewards, and strengthening communication across the Local. Updated office hours and contact information will be shared soon.
I would also like to congratulate all of our newly elected and returning Executive Members and Shop Stewards. Thank you for stepping forward to support your co-workers and our Local. I am excited to work with you as we continue strengthening our union and serving our members.
In Solidarity,
Fayiaz Chunara President, CUPE Local 4318

Bargaining Update
Since our last update, the bargaining committee has continued to make progress at the table. We have now worked through almost all of our non-monetary proposals and have begun discussions on monetary proposals.
Our most recent bargaining sessions took place in July. There are no bargaining dates scheduled in August, and we will return to the table with the employer on September 17, 18, 22, and 23. We will continue to keep members informed of significant developments as bargaining progresses.
