You do not need to know whether your concern is a grievance before contacting the union. CUPE Local 4318 can answer questions, explain your rights, and help you decide what to do next. It is usually easier to address a concern when the Local hears about it early.
When to Contact the Local
Contact the Local if:
- You have been called into a disciplinary, investigatory, or fact-finding meeting.
- You have a concern about scheduling, overtime, standby, public holidays, or regular work hours.
- You believe the Collective Agreement may not have been followed.
- You have a pay, classification, accommodation, return-to-work, health, or safety concern.
- You need a steward or union representation.
- You are not sure whether something is a union issue and want advice.
If You Are Called Into a Meeting
If the meeting may involve discipline or an investigation, tell the employer that you want union representation, and contact the Local as soon as possible. If possible, speak with the union before answering detailed questions or signing a document.
